First Lady Michelle Obama, and her daughters Malia and Sasha, had a fabulous time in New York City this weekend.
Mrs. Obama kicked off things early Saturday by promoting her Let’s Move campaign at the U.S. Open’s Arthur Ashe Kids’ Day event. Before a packed stadium, Mrs. Obama praised the United States Tennis Association (USTA) for announcing its new initiative to install 5,000 new kid-sized tennis courts around the nation, reports ESPN. Beginning in 2014, USTA also plans to train 15,000 new coaches, trainers and teachers over a three-year period.
Shortly after hitting the courts with kids and tennis star Serena Williams, Mrs. Obama and her daughters headed to midtown Manhattan for a evening showing of Trip to Bountiful.
According to sources, the First Family quietly took their seats just before the first act began. Upon returning to their seats for the second act, the audience gave a standing ovation. Mrs. Obama and the girls stayed after the show to meet the cast members—she greeted and chatted with them all including Vanessa L. Williams, Cicely Tyson and Cuba Gooding Jr.
