Michelle Obama made a surprise visit to Watkins Elementary School and John Burroughs Elementary School in Washington to visit young gardeners. The First Lady joined in worm sifting and helped prepare a kale salad from the gardens of 5th graders. This endeavor was to celebrate her last season with the White House Kitchen Garden.
“You guys have this amazing garden, and I’m so proud of you,” she said. “I want the world to see all the great things you’re doing and how you’re learning so much about good eating from you garden and your school.”
Mrs. Obama, who will be traveling around the country this spring to visit more home gardens, presented them with presidential garden-worthy swag.
