Michelle Obama made the day of the New York City girls’ club after the former First Lady made a surprise visit on Saturday.
Last month, Obama visited a dance class at her former high school in Chicago. And now, it was the ladies of the Lower Eastside Girls’ Club who were surprised by her impromptu visit.
“Thank you, @michelleobama for the heartfelt conversation & continuing to be an incredible inspiration to us,” the girls’ club said in a tweet. “Words can’t express our gratitude. “
The group also thanked Chef Sam Kass, who cooked them a healthy lunch for the day. Kass served as executive director of the Let’s Move! campaign that Obama championed while she was in the White House.
In a tweet to the girls she met, Obama told them to “always remember the power and the truth that lies inside your stories. I can’t wait to see what you do in the years ahead. I’m proud of you!”
To the awe-inspiring ladies of @girlsclubny: Always remember the power and the truth that lies inside your stories. I can’t wait to see what you do in the years ahead. I’m proud of you! #IAmBecominghttps://t.co/AyE4thlA9E
