Michelle Williams is packing her bags to head on the road with the nationally-acclaimed Broadway musical, “Fela.” The tour will kick off in Washington, D.C. on January 29 and head to 15 other cities across the U.S.
The Grammy-winning singer and actress took to Twitter to share her excitement about joinging the cast. “Excited to announce that I will be joining the National Tour of FELA!!!!! Yeah Yeah!!!,” Williams wrote.
Williams will play the role of Sandra Isadore, the love interest to Fela Kuti, show producers Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter, Will and Jada Pinkett Smith and Ruth and Stephen Hendel confirmed in a statement. “Fela” made its Broadway debut in 2008 and earned three Tony Awards in 2010.
In her post-Destiny’s Child career, Williams has joined the cast of several successful Broadway plays, including Aida, The Color Purple and Chicago.
