Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke will be named as the ‘Person of the Year’ at New York’s largest police union, reports the DNA Info.
The hardline conservative and supporter of Donald Trump will receive the honor from New York Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association next week.
“Sheriff Clarke is a passionate and vocal defender of police officers, at a time when our job is more difficult and dangerous than ever before,” PBA President Patrick Lynch said of Clarke.
“That is exactly what the PBA does for New York City police officers, so it has been encouraging to hear Sheriff Clarke make the same case on a national stage.”
This past year, Clarke has edged his way onto the national stage as an unofficial spokesperson for police officers who have come under tough scrutiny for their conduct and practices.
Often appearing on cable news programs to talk in support of law enforcement, Clarke has become widely known for his harsh criticism of the Black Lives Matter movement, calling it a racist organization with “vulgar, vile, and vicious rhetoric.”
In wake of the tragic Baton Rouge shooting that claimed the lives of three police officers, Clarke infamously appeared on CNN with Don Lemon to peg the Black Lives Matter movement as the “purveyors of hate.”
“This anti-cop sentiment from this hateful ideology called Black Lives Matter has fueled this rage against the American police officer,” Clarke told Don.
