The case of missing college student Nayla Kidd has thankfully come to a close with a happy ending.
The 19-year-old Columbia University sophomore had not been seen since May 5, but local police reported that she was found and reunited with her mother on Monday evening. While Nayla’s family suspected foul play after not hearing from her for over a week, it turns out the teen had become overwhelmed with school and moved to Brooklyn to “get away from it all” according to the NYDN.
Family Suspicious About Disappearance of 19-Year-Old College Student Nayla Kidd
“Basically, she just wanted to get away from it all,” a police source told the news outlet. “She rented a place in Brooklyn. She didn’t want to be at school anymore.”
Nayla was attending Columbia on a full scholarship and was a student of the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences when she suddenly vanished just before finals, deleting her Facebook page and changing her bank account and cell phone numbers.
Although the family nor police have offered any additional details regarding Nayla’s brief disappearance or return, the Facebook page started to help find her posted the following message on Monday night: “We all know that many of you have questions about Nayla’s disappearance but we ask that everyone to please respect Nayla and her family’s privacy.”
We’re just relieved to know that this young woman has returned home safely.
