Another legal battle is brewing amongst Martin Luther King Jr.’s children.
The Grio reported that a complaint was filed Friday in Fulton County Superior Court in Atlanta against Bernice King by her father’s estate, which is controlled by her brothers Martin Luther King III and Dexter King, asking her to relinquish his Nobel peace Prize and “traveling” Bible.
According to a statement made by Bernice Tuesday, her brothers want to sell the Bible and medal to a private buyer and she is opposed to that. The civil rights icon’s youngest and only living daughter also said that their father “MUST be turning in his grave” at the idea of selling his most prized possessions.
“While I love my brothers dearly, this latest decision by them is extremely troubling,” Bernice said.“Not only am I appalled and utterly ashamed, I am frankly disappointed that they would even entertain the thought of selling these precious items. It reveals a desperation beyond comprehension.”
The complaint filed by the estate does not mention any intention to sell either item.
Bernice is scheduled to hold a press conference Thursday at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta in response to the lawsuit.
