For the ESSENCE Best & Black Owned series, Work & Money Editor Marquita K. Harris and her team learn about the ups, downs, and in-betweens of running a business.
It’s widely known that men and people of color have largely been left out of the wellness space, which is why HealHaus is so special.
Since opening its doors in 2018 Darian Hall and Elisa Shankle’s HealHaus has created not only a space to practice wellness, but also a community haven for in-depth healing.
HealHaus is a wellness studio and cafe offering a number of services for the mind, body, and spirit: from various types of yoga and meditation classes to acupuncture to healing circles and more intimate one-on-one sessions with various types of counselors.
The idea for this business came at a transitional point in both of the entrepreneur’s lives. Hall had recently left his corporate job in the medical space needed a life change. While Shankle, after dealing with anxiety and depression in her 20s, had already become an expert in holistic living. She also already had an entrepreneurial background as an interior designer. The two friends were the perfect business pairing.
If it can heal you, you’ll find it here. The inclusive space offers a cozy respite in the middle of its bustling Bed-Stuy Brooklyn.
In the latest Best & Black Owned, the two owners and long-time friends delve into the inspiration behind the company and what it took to launch.
