The families of Trayvon Martin, Eric Garner, Michael Brown and Tamir Rice joined thousands of protesters at the “Justice for All” march in Washington D.C. on Saturday.
According to ABC, the Al Sharpton led march took place along Pennsylvania ave and was echoed in cities across the country including New York and Boston.
Eric Garner’s widow had encouraging words for the crowd, “Let’s keep it strong, long and meaningful,” she said.
Eric Garner died in July after a New York City police officer put him in a chokehold while arresting him for selling “loosie” cigarettes.
“My husband was a quiet man but he’s making a lot of noise right now,” Esaw Garner said. “His voice will be heard.”
Sybrina Fulton, the mother of Trayvon Martin encouraged protesters to reach out and connect with people outside their social circle.
Fulton also expressed her feelings about the recent events:
“It hurts me to my heart to know that so many men are getting away with shooting and killing our young people and not being held accountable for it,” she said.
The march comes after the mothers of the slain men sat down together for an intimate interview on Anderson Cooper 360 to discuss the murders of their sons for the first time.
The television appearance follows the recent grand jury decisions not to indict the officers responsible for Michael Brown and Eric Garner’s deaths and the consequential nationwide protests.
