MSNBC Host Melissa Harris-Perry and New Orleans mayoral candidate James Perry have welcomed a new daughter into the world.
The special baby girl was born on February 14. Calling the bundle of joy their “Valentine’s Day baby,” the pair took to Twitter to share the news: “Here’s the wonderful Valentine’s day gift that @MHarrisPerry & I received yesterday. A beautiful baby girl,” Perry tweeted.
Harris-Perry penned a letter via MSNBC explaining the unique way in which she is welcoming her baby, who was born via surrogacy. She opens up about her troubles with fibroids, going through a hysterectomy, learning about surrogacy and making the decision to go through with the process. The anchor also announces some more wonderful news: “In May, I will pen a monthly column for ESSENCE magazine chronicling my parenting adventures.”
ESSENCE Editor-in-Chief Vanessa K. Bush shares her well wishes and anticipation for the pending collaboration with Harris-Perry. “We couldn’t be happier for Melissa as she welcomes home her new baby. And we are honored and thrilled that she will be sharing her adventures in parenting with our audience.”
Harris-Perry elaborated on her excitement about the next phase of her new role in parenthood.”Now begin the sleepless nights, anxious moments and inexpressible joy of new parenting. We strive to be worthy of the miracle we have received. We are grateful for the support of family and friends that has brought us this far and will see us on through the next chapter of our story.”
