A grand jury has subpoenaed documents from a witness that involve the president and many of the associates closest to him, news outlets are reporting.
According to NBC News, investigators from special counsel Robert Mueller’s probe into Russian collusion are looking for emails, call logs, text messages, notes and documents that go back almost to the start of Trump’s presidential campaign in 2015. Mueller continues to probe alleged ties between the Trump campaign and Russian election meddling.
Not only is Mueller looking for information on Trump, but it appears he is also targeting the president’s former and currents aides, including former White House advisor Steve Bannon and former communications director Hope Hicks. Other staffers identified are former campaign staffers Rick Gates, Corey Lewandowski, Paul Manafort, Carter Page, Roger Stone, and his longtime employees Keith Schiller and lawyer Michael Cohen
Mueller’s team sent the subpoena to the witness last month, Axios reports.
The President continues to believe he will not be snared in this investigation, according to a weekend report by the Washington Post. The president says that the public is will eventually agree with his claim that it was the Democrats that conspired with Moscow during the presidential race, not the GOP.
