The Trayvon Martin case has called many to action, specifically to speak out publicly on various media platforms about the jury’s verdict that found former neighborhood watch leader George Zimmerman not guilty in the shooting of the 17-year-old teen. Recently the MSNBC host Melissa Harris-Perry dedicated her “Open Letter” to Martin’s mom, Sybrina Fulton. In the powerful letter she spoke, “When you were cast into the part no woman wants to play –– the grieving mother seeking justice for her child, you took on your role admirably.” Harris-Perry went on to tell Fulton, “You were what we needed you to be, a symbol of strength or endurance, a sign that we, like you, could and would carry on.”
