Last night, Kevin Durant turned what was meant to be his MVP moment into a touching tribute to his mother Wanda Pratt.
The NBA awarded the Oklahoma City Thunder forward the season’s Most Valuable Player award, and Durant took the platform to thank his family, especially his mother. “I don’t know about you guys, but when something good happens to me, I look back to what brought me here,” he said, recalling times his mother went hungry so her children could eat.
“We weren’t supposed to be here. You made us believe. You kept us off the street. Put clothes on our backs, food on our table,” he said, fighting back tears.
“You sacrificed for us. You’re the real MVP.”
