Despite constant news headlines about Nelson Mandela’s declining health, his daughter Makaziwe says her father is still fighting.
In an interview with the South African Broadcasting Corporation, Makaziwe shared that her father isn’t doing well, but continues to put up a good fight from his “deathbed.”
“Tata is still with us, strong, courageous,” she explained. “Even for a lack of a better word… on his ‘deathbed’ he is teaching us lessons; lessons in patience, in love, lessons of tolerance.”
She says that although Mandela is not what he once was, he’s still got a “fighting spirit.”
Several weeks ago, Mandela’s ex-wife Winnie Madikizela-Mandela said the former leader was “quite ill.” She updated the media by saying Madiba was also unable to speak because of tubes in his lungs to keep them clear of fluid, but communicates with family members with facial expressions.
The world began to closely follow Mandela’s failing health back in June when he was hospitalized for quite some time for a recurring lung infection.
