A video tribute dedicated to former South African president Nelson Mandela is being shown in New York City’s Times Square.
Three minutes before midnight throughout the month of April, giant screens in the bustling area display a short film, entitledThe Power of Words, which features quotes from the anti-apartheid leader and highlights his life as an influential activist.
Mandela’s grandson, Kweku Mandela, has been working with others on the production for two years. Last Friday he, along with family and friends, flew from South Africa to attend a special screening of the film in New York City.
“I was happy to share it with my family and friends,” Kweku said at the screening. “And having people take a moment to watch a piece on my grandfather’s legacy was an amazing feeling.”
