The world waits with baited breath after it was announced that Nelson Mandela was hospitalized this weekend. The 94-year-old former South African president was admitted to a hospital in the capital of Pretoria on Saturday for routine medical tests, which officials said are “consistent with his age.”
Today, a spokesman for current president Jacob Zuma said he visited Mandela in hospital and can assure that he is “in good hands” and “looks well after a restful night,” reports the BBC.
Mandela has had his share of health scares in the past two years. He was hospitalized for abdominal problems this past February and treated for a respiratory infection in January 2011. His last public appearance was in July 2010 when he attended closing ceremonies for the World Cup in South Africa.
Our prayers go out to Mr. Mandela and his family.
