It didn’t take long for Jay-Z to snap back at critics who became suspicious of his recent anniversary trip to Cuba with wife Beyoncé. Today, the rapper released “Open Letter” addressing all his haters.
Jay-Z raps, “Politicians never did sh*t for me/ Except lie to me, distort history/ Wanna give me jail time and a fine/ Fine, let me commit a real crime… / Obama said, ‘chill, you gonna get me impeached.'”
Earlier this week, the Treasury Department issued an official letter saying the power couple’s trip was authorized. “It is our understanding that the travelers in question traveled to Cuba pursuant to an educational exchange trip organized by a group,” read the statement. Potential visitors can apply for trips that include “a full-time schedule of educational exchange activities that result in meaningful interaction between the U.S. travels and individuals in Cuba.”
Immediately after pictures surfaced of the couple enjoying themselves in Cuba, two Republican lawmakers wrote a letter to the Treasury Department’s office of Foreign Assets Control stating, “Despite the clear prohibition against tourism in Cuba, numerous press reports described the couples’ trip as tourism, and the Castro regime touted it as such in its propaganda.” In 2012, the Obama administration lifted some travel restrictions to Cuba.
