A couple in Florida lost their lives in a Thanksgiving car accident that has left their families and friends shocked and devastated.
Yvette Alexandre, 21, and her fiancé, 24-year-old LaShay Waiters were driving home after the holiday festivities when they collided with a wrong way driver on the highway. Despite wearing their seatbelts, both Alexandre and Waiters were pronounced dead at Tampa General Hospital later that evening.
Unfortunately, that’s not the saddest part of the story.
Just last month, the young couple got engaged and according to reports from the the Tampa Bay Times, Waiters asked Alexandre’s father for her hand in marriage.
“I found that admirable, especially given the young men of this era who don’t understand the value of chivalry,” Robert Alexandre said of his late future son-in-law.
Just two weeks after Waiters popped the question, Alexandre had some news of her own to share with her soon-to-be groom–she was expecting their first child.
The pair met at the University of Central Florida about three years ago and everyone around them knew that the two were inseparable until their lives were tragically cut short.
Justin Lakin, 21, slammed into the couple’s car after driving on the wrong side of the interstate. Lakin was also killed in the head-on collision. Authorities are currently investigating the factors that lead to the crash. They’re also awaiting a toxicology report to determine if alcohol played a part in the deadly incident.
