NFL executives have met with representatives from the Black Women’s Roundtable to discuss domestic violence in the league, reports The Washington Post.
The meeting came about after NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell announced the league had assembled a domestic violence advisory panel in September. The panel had no women of color, which prompted the Black Women’s Roundtable to reach out.
Five NFL executives, including the new VP of social responsibility, Anna Isaacson, and the executive VP of football operations, Troy Vincent met with Melanie L. Campbell, president and CEO of the National Coalition of Black Civic Participation and convener of the Black Women’s Roundtable, and other members. The meeting lasted two hours.
“We talked through issues of diversity within the NFL, the culture, the grand opportunity they have to try to address a major societal issue,” said Campbell. “We asked a lot of question, and we did a lot of listening.”
Campbell said the group would continue to have the roundtable as a resource for the NFL. And although Goodell was absent, a connection will be made between the groups. “We agreed to have a meeting with commissioner Goodell in the next 30to 45 days,” said Campbell.” Some things we feel we’ll deal with then we meet the commissioner.”
