Nicki Minaj says she’s over the childish antics that come with being in the music industry. The rapper-turned-American Idol judge compared the industry to high school in the latest issue of Teen Vogue.
“People treat this business like it’s high school,” she said. “It can absolutely feel like one big popularity contest, and you know what? I can’t be bothered. I can’t allow myself to play ridiculous games with grown adults in the industry. I can’t be nice to someone just because they’re hot right now. I can’t do it.”
Minaj’s is known for having feuds with Lil’ Kim and most recently, her fellow American Idol judge Mariah Carey.
When it comes to criticism, Minaj says she doesn’t pay attention to the negative comments that come with the spotlight. “I used to read the bad things people said about me,” said Minaj. “Then I asked myself, ‘Why am I reading that when I have millions of people saying great things?’ You cannot give negativity power.”
She tells her young fans that there’s nothing wrong with deleting your social media. “If people keep taunting you and you keep reading it, it’s poison,” she said.
