The untitled series will focus on Minaj, who was born in Saint James, Trinidad and Tobago, as she grows up in Queens during the 1990s with a vibrant immigrant family. It will follow the personal and musical journey that led her to being the star she is today.
“Nicki Minaj is a force to be reckoned with at everything she touches,” said ABC Family’s EVP Programming and Development Karey Burke. “Nicki is an international superstar, yet not everyone knows how inspiring and hilarious her true story is, and we can’t wait to share it with the world.”
Nicki also hinted that she’s already thinking about the cast saying, “I am now launching a nation wide search to find #YoungNicki.”
A pilot episode will be filmed in the star’s hometown this winter. There is no word yet on when fans can expect the new series to debut.
