Nicki Minaj made her first ever guest appearance on ABC’s The View today. The Young Money princess graced the couch alongside Olympic gold medalist Gabby Douglas, who co-hosted the show for the day.
“Thank you guys for having me. I am honored to be here,” Minaj started off by saying before expressing her excitement to be the newest American Idol judge.
“It’s going pretty good,” she said in a British accent. “I look up to all of them in my own way. Of course I worked with Mariah very early on in my career, so I am very grateful that she gave me that look very early on. She’s really, really funny. I didn’t know Keith, but Randy I knew through the industry and he’s kind of crazy.”
Minaj’s American Idol gig is not the only new thing on her plate. She recently released her first fragrance, Pink Friday, which she describes as a dream come true. “As a little girl growing up in Southside Jamaica, Queens if anyone would have told me I would have my own perfume one day and be able to inspire young Black girls everywhere — to go in a Macy’s or Nordstrom’s and see their face staring back at them — I would have never believed it.”
As far as giving advice to her fans, Minaj says she is very realistic. “I worked hard for what I have,” she said. “To be successful you have to work hard.”
