An Angela Davis biopic is currently being developed after Codeblack Films acquired the rights to Angela Davis: An Autobiography.
Variety reports that Nina Yang Bongiovi, one of the producers behind Dope and Fruitvale Station, will be behind the Davis biopic. Davis will also act as an executive producer along with her niece Eisa Davis, who is writing the script.
Eisa wrote and starred in the play Angela’s Mixtape and was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in Drama for her play Bulrusher, so the script is definitely in good hands.

This isn’t the first Angela Davis film Codeblack has been behind. In 2013, the entertainment company acquired the theatrical rights to Free Angela and All Political Prisoners and partnered with BET for the release. The film debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival.
No word yet on how far along the biopic is and when fans can expect a release.
