Black patients battling blood-related illnesses are struggling to find bone marrow transplants as they are underrepresented on national registries. Black donors only make up six percent of registered donors in the U.S. and seven percent globally while about 70 percent of patients rely on donations from strangers. Quincy Jones and Academy President Cheryl Boone are teaming up to produce a documentary on “the untold story of African Americans in Hollywood.” Jones revealed the news at Ischia Film and Music Festival in Ischia, Italy, where he received a lifetime achievement award. The purpose of the feature is “to get the story out of the contributions that have been made by so many, not just the celebrities, which even that backstory has not been told enough,” says Boone. Anthony Anderson is under investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department after being accused of assaulting a woman last year. “It’s unfortunate that anyone can file a police report, whether it is true or false,” Anderson’s rep said in response to the allegations. “The authorities have not contacted Anthony or any of his representatives about this matter.
