Octavia Spencer knows a thing or two about awards season. The Black or White actress took home both an Oscar and a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress for her role in 2011’s The Help.
Speaking with HipHollywood.com, Spencer dished on who she was rooting for during for this year’s Academy Awards (Emma Stone, Reese Witherspoon, J.K. Simmons and Selma), and she also admitted that she didn’t think Selma was snubbed.
“I don’t understand what [people are upset] about,” she said, referring to neither director Ava DuVernay nor the film’s star, David Oyelowo, receiving a nom. “The film was not overlooked. It received a Best Picture and a Best Song nomination. It is what it is.”
Spencer went on to congratulate all of the nominees.
“I’m thrilled for everyone that has received a nomination,” she said. “It’s hard to get—trust me.”
