According to reports, a former prison guard, and author of a book called Guarding the Juice, says the former football player thinks Cuba Gooding Jr., who plays Simpson in American Crime Story, looks nothing like him.
Cuba Gooding Jr. Remembers Where He Was During O.J. Simpson’s Infamous Bronco Chase
Jeffrey Felix, a former Nevada prison guard at the Lovelace Correctional Center, tells Page Six that Simpson says “Gooding’s not tall enough and his head is too small.” If this is true—and that’s a big if—then Simpson’s being kind of petty over something trivial. He’s clearly not paying attention to the rest of the show.
O.J. apparently does have other issues with the show. “On a deeper level,” Felix begins, “Simpson is ‘upset’ that the FX series seems to suggest he’s guilty of murdering ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ron Goldman.”
‘American Crime Story’ Star Cuba Gooding Jr. Opens Up About Hearing the O.J. Simpson Verdict
“The slow-speed, white Bronco chase scene in the FX series missed the reason why Simpson decided not to commit suicide. The only reason he didn’t shoot himself in the head in the Bronco is that he saw a kid on the side of the road holding a sign saying, ‘We Heart You Juice!’”
What Else Was Happening in the World When O.J. Simpson Was Found Not Guilty?
Still, despite O.J. possibly being upset about the casting, he’s not wrong. Others have commented on the fact that Cuba Gooding Jr. looks nothing like O.J. Simpson. Jeffrey Mossa, production designer for the show, says that it was hard to recreate photos because the two look nothing alike.
“What’s interesting is that of all of our cast members, who look so spot on to their characters when in costume and makeup, Cuba is actually the one who looks the least like the character he is portraying . . . which we found out when trying to do Photoshop work on some of his photos [in his house], just his body type is very different from O.J.’s as well.”
FX’s ‘The People V. O.J. Simpson’ Is Twisted and Dark, But How Can You Not Watch?
The casting might be off, but the show is pretty entertaining and at the end of the day the only thing that really matters is that people are watching. The show regularly trends on Twitter and with reports that the Kardashians, and now O.J. have a few issues with it, there’s no doubt more people will tune in.
