Oprah Winfrey has apologized for the recent media frenzy she’s sparked after talking about a racist encounter she faced in Switzerland.
Winfrey told reporters Monday at the Los Angeles premiere of her new film The Butler, that she was apologetic for mentioning the country’s name when she talked about the experience.
“I think that incident in Switzerland was jut an incident in Switzerland,” said the media mogul. “I’m really sorry that it got blow up. I purposefully did not mention the name of the store. I’m sorry that I said it was Switzerland.”
Winfrey shared in an interview last week that a sales clerk in a store in Zurich would not show her a handbag because she believed it was “too expensive” for the talk-show host.
Winfrey now says that she regrets blaming the country for the incident.
“It’s not an indictment against the country, or even that store. It’s just one person who didn’t want to offer me the opportunity to see the bag,” she explained.
Winfrey later took to twitter to put a final stop to the ordeal.
“Turns out the store clerk did me a favor. Just found out that bag was #38K! She was right I was NOT going to buy it,” Winfrey wrote. “Other than the handbag diss. I had a GREAT time in Zurich.”
