The first book on Winfrey’s coveted book list is Wild by Cheryl Strayed, a non-fiction story of the author’s adventurous hike of the Pacific Crest Trail. “I love this book,” Winfrey writes in the July issue of O, The Oprah Magazine, which reintroduces the book club. “I want to shout it from the mountaintop. I want to shout it from the Web. In fact, I love this book so much and want to talk about it so much, I knew I had to reinvent my book club.”
As with years past, Winfrey will make several book selections for the new version of her book club which she has dubbed “Oprah’s Book Club 2.0.” This time around, Winfrey is incorporating a digital component to her book club for readers who have ditched traditional hard copy publications in exchange for e-books.
“This is a book club for the way people live and read today,” Sheri Salata, the president of OWN, said in a statement. “Oprah’s Book Club 2.0 takes the Oprah.com online community, readers of O Magazine and OWN viewers and connects them through their shared love of great books.”
Oprah’s Book Club launched in 1996 and up until its hiatus in 2010, 65 books had been handpicked by Winfrey.
