In honor of The Wiz‘s 40th anniversary this year, castmembers from the original Broadway production will reunite for a performance at New York’s Central Park Summerstage, reports Playbill.
The Wiz: A Celebration in Dance & Music will include original cast members, including actress Phylicia Rashad and jazz singer Dee Dee Bridgewater, for a performance celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Tony Award-winning production.
Rashad, who played a munchkin in the original production, will co-host with the musical’s original choreographer, George Faison.
Faison was the first African-American to win a Tony Award for Best Choreography for the musical.
Singer Stephanie Mill was also in the original Broadway production as Dorothy, though there’s no word yet on whether she will be in attendance.
The free event is set for August 12th.
The show precedes NBC’s “The Wiz Live!” which will air on Dec. 3. Mills will play Aunt Em in that production.
