While Larry Sims is one of the most sought after hairstyIists in the industry, that wasn’t always the case. Sims started off as a professional dancer for many years, but deep down he always knew he loved hairdressing and wanted to make the transition. He eventually ended up attending cosmetology school landed his first hair gig with Jessica Simpson. Later Simpson introduced him to her current stylist, Ken Paves, and then Paves helped him land a job with Victoria Beckham. The rest is history.
These days he’s styling the hottest celebs, but admits the hardest part is dealing with time constraints. “You’re always working against clock,” he says. “And if you’re rushing, you need to make sure you’re not missing the mark. The job has to be done well no matter your time constrictions.”

When it comes to trends, he’s really feeling the choppy, not super long style like the long bob that women everywhere are embracing. “They’re breaking the general sexy hair barriers and I love it,” he says. “I also am all about texture and embracing your hairs natural movement.”
To get the choppy look, Sims keeps a bevy of products in his arsenal, but his favorites include, got2b beach trippin’ salt-infusion waving spray, Smooth ‘N Shine Instant Edge Smoothing Pomade and Schwarzkopf Osis+ Elastic Flexible Hold Hairspray.
This year, Sims is taking on the red carpet season filled with excitement. “I’m most excited about seeing how creative these women can be in terms of taking risks and being non-traditional in their hair and style as a whole,” he says. “They’re pressing the envelope and it makes my job even more exciting by helping them create these spontaneous looks.”
