House Speaker Nancy Pelosi invited President Donald Trump to testify in the impeachment inquiry, offering him the option of appearing before the House Intelligence Committee in person or answer questions in writing.
“If he has information that is exculpatory…then we look forward to seeing it,” the California Democrat said during an interview on CBS’ Face the Nation, the AP notes, adding that Trump “could come right before the committee and talk, speak all the truth that he wants if he wants.”
Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer agreed with Pelosi, saying that the president should not tweet about the ongoing hearings if he has a problem, but come forward and “testify under oath.”
Trump, in the meantime, went ahead and tweeted about Pelosi’s exchange on Face the Nation, slamming the House Speaker.
“Our Crazy, Do Nothing (where’s USMCA, infrastructure, lower drug pricing & much more?) Speaker of the House, Nervous Nancy Pelosi, who is petrified by her Radical Left knowing she will soon be gone (they & Fake News Media are her BOSS), suggested on Sunday’s DEFACE THE NATION….that I testify about the phony Impeachment Witch Hunt,” he raved.
Still, he added that he liked the idea of testifying and would “strongly consider it” in order to “get Congress focused again.”
