The Pennsylvania mother who beat and attempted to strangle her daughter for incorrectly reciting Bible verses earlier this year has been sentenced to prison.
According to police reports, Rhonda Shoffner forced her daughter, who was under the age of 13, to kneel and repeat Bible verses. Each of the five times the girl made a mistake, Shoffner slammed the child’s head into the wall. She also tried to strangle her daughter the kicked her out, adding that she would kill her.
The girl left and called her father who notified the police, the Associated Press reports
Shoffner, 41, plead guilty to charges of aggravated assault, strangulation, endangering the welfare of a child and terroristic threats.
She was sentenced Wednesday to up to five years in prison, and another five years of probation upon release.
