Essence Atkins plays Candace “Candy” Meyers, a successful national TV news anchor who was adopted as a child but haphazardly reconnects with her birth mother Mary Jo, played by Lynn Whitfield in the new Up original movie, My Other Mother. When one of her biggest fans passes away, Candy discovers he was also her biological father. She travels to his funeral where she meets her extended family in this heartwarming drama. Jasmine Guy and Angie Stone also co-star.
The film is the fifth to be produced and air on UP from the network’s “UP Faith & Family Screenplay Competition.” The script is by Keronda “KiKi” McKnight, the Winner in last year’s UP Faith & Family Screenplay Competition at the American Black Film Festival (ABFF).
