Politicians love their photo ops and will not pass up the chance to pose with babies and young people.
But a group of eighth graders from New Jersey would not give House Speaker Paul Ryan that satisfaction on Friday.
Students from South Orange Middle School visited the Capitol last week and were invited to take a group picture with the top Republican. But when it was time to snap the photo, about 100 students chose to sit in the parking lot instead.
Matthew Malespina, one of the woke students who sat out the photo op, said that he couldn’t “take a picture with someone who supports a budget that would destroy public education and would leave 23 million people without healthcare,” the Washington Post reports.
In another out of the mouths of babes moment, eighth grader Wendy Weeks said, “I think that taking the picture represents that you agree with the same political views and I don’t agree with his political views, so I chose not to be in it.”
We just wish some of our representatives felt the same way.
