Comic Book Starring 'Black Panther's' Shuri Is Finally Here And It's A Work Of Art

The comic book starring Wakanda’s beloved princess Shuri is finally here and it’s pure Black art. After Shuri, played by Letitia Wright in Marvel’s hit Black Panther, proved to be the breakout star of Wakanda’s royal family, Marvel tapped fantasy writer Nnedi Okorafor to spearhead a series about the tech genius. The covers — because there are three distinct versions — was created by Sam Spratt. The entire comic book, however, was illustrated by Leonardo Romero. Okorafor already has a little experience already in the world of comics. The Nigerian-American, who already has a project in development with HBO that’s backed by Game of Thrones creator George R. R. Martin, made her first foray into comics with an eight-page short, “Blessing in Disguise,” for the Venomverse War Stories No. 1 comic book. She’s also written 10 award-winning books along with doing her own TED Talk. Okorafor has receipts! In the first comic book, fans can read Shuri deal with the fact that her older brother, King T’Challa, is lost after a space mission in space. And although the kingdom is looking for a queen to sit on the throne, Shuri is happiest being nerdy in her lab. We have no doubt that Shuri’s fate is in the right hands and we can’t wait to read where Okorafor takes the character.
