A classic New York love story drama is headed for Broadway.
Under the guidance of Robert DeNiro, who also starred in the original film, A Bronx Tale will be brought to life on stage later this year. As many will remember, the film tells the story of a young Italian teenager growing up in the ’60s (played by Lilo Brancato Jr) who becomes conflicted with his loyalty to his hard working father (played by Robert DeNiro) and the draw to the street life he sees daily.
A second, and perhaps most impactful, storyline focuses on the young man’s growing affection for a local African-American girl (played by Taral Hicks) and their struggle to make their new relationship work amid growing tensions between the Italian and Black communities in NYC.

Loosely based on the real-life experiences of the film’s screenwriter and lead actor Chazz Palminteri, the movie quickly became a fan favorite upon its release in 1993.
Although casting for the production has not yet been revealed, the stage play will serve as Robert DeNiro’s Broadway directorial debut and will feature a doo-wop style score, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
A Bronx Tale: The Musical will preview on November 3, with opening day set for December 1 at NYC’s Longacre Theatre.
