Kellyanne Conway defended her boss Donald Trump when asked about Trump’s continued role as executive producer on Celebrity Apprentice.
“Well, he’s a very transparent guy. Everyone can see what he’s doing,” Conway said Friday morning on CNN. “The fact is, he is conferring with all kinds of experts to tell him what he is allowed to do and not to do as the President of the United States. And if this is one of the approved activities, then perhaps he’ll consider staying on.”
On Thursday, EW confirmed Trump will keep his executive producer credit on Celebrity Apprentice when the show returns in 2017. The president-elect hosted the reality show for 14 seasons.
When asked whether Trump’s position with the television series would conflict with his job as President of the United States, Conway said no. “Were we so concerned about the hours and hours and hours spent on the golf course of the current president?” she asked. “Presidents have the right to do things in their spare time or their leisure time. Nobody objects to that.”
Conway added it was unrealistic to expect a president to only focus on being president, adding “the idea that these men are going to be all work and nothing else all the time is just unrealistic.”

Speaking of how Trump spends his free time, Conway cited his family and also his work. “I can tell you work is his work and work is his hobby. His preferred time is with his family, but it’s followed very closely behind with work,” she noted. “It’s a mystery to all of us when he even sleeps. I’m sure he’s watching us right now. He’s just all high energy, high octane, high activity. So, again, if the powers that be, if the lawyers and protocol officers say he can do [Celebrity Apprentice] then he probably is going to say why not?”
As for whether Trump will keep his salary from the NBC reality series, Conway said she wasn’t sure what he had decided. “I haven’t discussed that with him directly. However, there are many options. He can do what he’s going to do.”
