Tuesday’s shooting death of Alton Sterling has once again rattled countless communities, prompting louder cries of “Black Lives Matter” and has gotten the well-deserved attention of presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton.
The former Secretary of State and Democratic Nominee for the 2016 Presidential race released a statement on Wednesday via Twitter on Sterling’s death calling the incident “profoundly wrong.”
Here’s Everything We Know About The Alton Sterling Police Killing
“The death of Alton Sterling is a tragedy, and my prayers are with his family, including his five children. From Staten Island to Baltimore, Ferguson to Baton Rogue, too, many African American families mourn the loss of a loved one from a police-involved incident,” she wrote. “Something is profoundly wrong when so many Americans have reason to believe that our country doesn’t consider them as precious as others because of the color of their skin.”

Sterling was shot and killed outside of a gas station in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Officers were called to the gas station after reportedly receiving a call involving a “disturbance.” The 37-year-old was wearing a red shirt and selling CDs before one of the officers tackles him to the ground and another cop forcefully pins Sterling into the pavement with a knee in his chest. Following a brief struggle, one cop shouts “he’s got a gun!” and the other reacts in response, “If you f****n move, I swear to God.” Sterling is then shot six times as the entire incident is being filmed on camera.
