After wavering throughout the duration of Donald Trump’s presidency, and claiming it wasn’t effective strategy, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi finally announced Tuesday that a formal impeachment inquiry against Trump will begin.
“The actions taken to date by the president have seriously violated the Constitution,” Pelosi said after a meeting of House Democrats at the Capitol. “Mr. Trump must be held accountable. No one is above the law.”
The impeachment discussion finally took a turn after Trump called on Ukraine’s president Volodymyr Zelensky to investigate former Vice President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter, ESSENCE previously reported.
Further, Trump put a hold on millions in military aid to Ukraine several days before the call.
Trump denied any wrongdoing, claiming, “No quid pro quo, there was nothing,” he said. “It was a perfect conversation.”
Of course, the Tweeter-In-Chief has already responded, calling the impeachment inquiry a “witch hunt” and “presidential harassment.”
