House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has been crowned the reigning Queen of Clapbacks following an in-person meeting with Donald Trump that later spilled over onto social media. On Wednesday, Trump called a sit-down with Democratic leaders to discuss the unfolding drama over Syria.
After the meeting dispersed, the White House tweeted a picture of Nancy Pelosi seemingly unloading on Trump. Trump called the moment a “meltdown” on Pelosi’s part, but others in attendance disagreed. Democrats after the meeting said it was Trump, in fact, who lost his cool, calling the Speaker a “third-rate” —or “3rd grade” depending on who you ask— politician.
The release of the photo started a “meltdown” matchup on Twitter with Speaker Pelosi coming out the victor. While Trump captioned his photo, “Nervous Nancy’s unhinged meltdown!” Pelosi got the upper hand by changing her Twitter banner to the photo Trump released. Nacy also told reporters following their exchange, that she prays for Trump and is concerned about him.
“I pray for the president all the time and I tell him that. I pray for his safety and that of his family. Now we have to pray for his health, because this was a very serious meltdown on the part of the president,” Pelosi said.
Sen. Bob Menendez (D-NJ) echoed her sentiments on CNN’s New Day Thursday morning saying, “The meeting started off with the President walking in and slamming down his files on the table, suggesting that this was a meeting he agreed to, but that we had asked for. No one had asked for the meeting. I got an invitation from the White House. It wasn’t at my solicitation or the Speaker’s or the Democratic leader of the Senate. And it was belligerent from the get-go.”
