Rep. Al Green (D-Texas) has notified his Democratic colleagues that he will file articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump Tuesday night, despite pushback from members in his party, including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who has consistently resisted doing so, the Washington Post reports.
โYouโre wasting your time, unless the evidence is so conclusive that the Republicans will understand,โ Pelosi told USA Today in a March 2019 interview. โOtherwise, itโs a gift to the president. We take our eye off the ball.โ
According to the Post, โUnder House rules, Democratic leaders can decide to try to table the impeachment articles, effectively killing them for now; refer them to the House Judiciary Committee for consideration; or allow the vote to proceed as is.โ
