Poll: Should Nicki Minaj Have Pulled Out of the Summer Jam Concert?

Nicki Minaj was set to headline Hot 97′s Summer Jam festival in New Jersey this weekend, but pulled out following negative remarks about her song “Starships” from the station’s on-air personality, DJ Peter Rosenberg. Commenting from a side stage on Sunday afternoon, hours before Minaj was set to headline the festival, Rosenberg told a small crowd that he didn’t think “Starships” was “real hip hop.”

“I know there are some chicks in here waiting to sing along with ‘Starships’ later,” he said. “I’m not talking to y’all right now.”

Clearly unhappy with what he deemed as a snub, Minaj’s label head, rapper Lil Wayne, responded by tweeting that all his Young Money artists would not perform. “The President has spoken,” tweeted Minaj in response. “I go above and beyond for my fans. But won’t ever go against Wayne’s word. What he says, goes.”

Minaj later defended her actions during a heated interview with DJ Funkmaster Flex. “It’s not about his opinion, because I have opinions about DJs on Hot 97 and I have opinions on Hot 97,” she said. “But when it’s about us uniting people [for] your show, I wouldn’t dare come on your stage and say something negative about Hot 97, leading up to that concert.”
