President Obama confirmed that an investigation is underway to find out whether Michelle Obama, along with other top-tier political figures and celebrities, have had their personal information hacked and posted online.
“We should not be surprised that if you’ve got hackers that want to dig in and devote a lot of resources, that they can access this information,” Obama told ABC News. “Again, not sure how accurate but you’ve got websites out there that tell people’s credit card info. That’s how sophisticated they are.”
Other alleged hacking victims include Beyonce, Jay-Z, Kim Kardashian, Joe Biden and Hillary Clinton.
The hackers posted what they claimed were the Social Security numbers, credit reports, private banking information and former addresses of these celebs. They targeted the First Lady by putting up what they claimed was her Social Security number, phone number and credit report.
According to TMZ, some of the hacked stars are reporting that the phone numbers on the website are not their own but rather that of their business representatives. Fans had apparently been calling the numbers constantly throughout the weekend.
Law enforcement officials are still working to find out who is behind the hacking mischief and whether the information posted on the website is in fact accurate.
