Student loans are a burden for anyone but for those who are permanently disabled, the debt of school payments will be a worry no more.
Thanks to President Obama nearly 400,000 disabled Americans will not have to pay back $7.7 billion in federal loans. POTUS and the Department of Education are now administering aid to thouse who are eligible to have their loans discharged according to The Washington Post.

“Too many eligible borrowers were falling through the cracks, unaware they were eligible for relief,” said Ted Mitchell, the Education Under Secretary.
By law, Americans who suffer from a severe disability are elgible for a government discharge of loans as of four years ago when President Obama allowed for those permanenly afflicted to use their social security to apply for the discharge. While most in the beginning were hesitant and reluctant, the Department of Education hopes that the offered aid will encourage more disabled persons to seek assistance.
“Americans with disabilities have a right to student loan relief. And we need to make it easier, not harder, for them to receive the benefits they are due.”
