An email from the White House revealed that POTUS is making the trip, “to celebrate the contributions Muslim Americans make to our nation and reaffirm the importance of religious freedom to our way of life.”
During his time in office, President Obama has been very vocal about inclusion and tolerance. He hopes to further the message of trust and respect with his visit to the mosque.
“The President believes that one of our nation’s greatest strengths is our rich diversity and the very idea that Americans of different faiths and backgrounds can thrive together—that we’re all part of the same American family. As the President has said, Muslim Americans are our friends, and neighbors; our co-workers, and sports heroes—and our men and women in uniform defending our country.”
On Wednesday Obama will visit the Islamic Society of Baltimore, where he will hold a roundtable with community members.
The mosque is one of the largest Muslim centers in the Mid-Atlantic. According to its website, it “strive[s] to serve the community with education, interfaith and civic relations, social and healthcare services, and much more.”
