Mobb Deep’s Prodigy has passed away at the age of 42.
According to the rapper’s publicist, Prodigy — real name Albert Johnson — had been hospitalized a few days after a performance in Las Vegas due to complications from sickle cell anemia.
“As most of his fans know, Prodigy battled the disease since birth,” the publicist told TMZ.
However, the exact cause of death has not been determined.
According to TMZ, Prodigy had been in Vegas performing alongside acts like KRS-One, Ice-T, and Ghostface Killah on the Art of Rap Tour.
Prodigy formed Mobb Deep with fellow rapper Havoc (Kejuan Muchita) in the early 90s. The group had success with hits like “Shook Ones” and “Quiet Storm.”
Mobb Deep’s Havoc shared two photos remembering his friend, captioning the photo “Forever.”
Our prayers are with his family and friends.
This is a developing story.
