Public Enemy and The Roots are geared to headline at the opening festival of the National Museum of African American History and Culture.

The museum plans to turn a corner of the National Mall – on the Washington Monument grounds between 15th and 17th streets NW – into a block during the three-day, two night festival. The party begins on Sept. 23 and ends on Sept. 25.

The festival, called “Freedom Sounds: A Community Celebration,” begins just a day before the museum’s grand opening and will also feature performances including dance, spoken-word and live muraling.
Oh, and did we mention there’d be food?? After all what’s a party without food?
