News leaked Wednesday that Chrisette Michele agreed to perform at President-Elect Donald Trump’s inauguration this week, and her mentions have been in shambles ever since.
Michele’s team confirmed with ESSENCE that she will be joining a group of country musicians and rock stars for the lineup. Michele’s manager initially seemed a bit taken aback by the news and was unable to give further comment.
Apparently, Michele agreed to perform weeks ago, but wanted to keep the information secret for fear of backlash, the New York Daily News reported. Her team was especially concerned once they saw the reaction to Jennifer Holliday’s announcement that she would sing. She has since chosen not to perform at the ceremony.
While most celebrities have said little, The Roots’ Questlove was quick to take to Twitter once he heard of Michele’s deal.
I'd pay Chrisette to NOT perform 😔

“I’d pay Chrisette to NOT perform,” he tweeted.
Not surprisingly, Twitter wasn’t here for the news either.
For Chrisette Michelle to be performing at Fanta Fascist's inauguration. It's proof that she doesn't wanna win. And she's Team Bad Decisions

In a video posted to his Instagram last week, Snoop Dogg declared that any “jiggaboo” preparing to sing for Trump’s inauguration deserves a roasting.
“So ain’t nobody gonna perform for Donald Trump, huh?” he begins. “Which one of you jiggaboo a** n**gas gonna be the first one to do it? I’m waiting, I’m gonna roast the f**k out of you.”
Oop!
