Black Panther has proven that it is a cultural and box officer juggernaut in its opening weekend. And it’s just too much for some racists to bear.
Several racist trolls posted tweets over the weekend alleging that they had been assaulted by black moviegoers at screenings of the film.
But according to The Hollywood Reporter, the graphic photos were actually stolen images of actual assaults or cinematic gore makeup tests.
Many took to Twitter to push back on the lies.
Marvel director James Gunn also spoke out against the fake claims Saturday, pushing people to overlook the lies and go watch the movie:
“The racists are out and rearing their ugly heads with lots of fake tweets about violence at #BlackPanther screenings,” he tweeted. “In truth, people from all walks of life have been enjoying the film together this weekend. Don’t let this BS scare you away.”
