“He who lives in harmony with himself lives in harmony with the world.” In creating my new album “The Love & War MasterPeace,” out March 2nd, I reflected heavily on the music of great artists like Marvin Gaye, Curtis Mayfield, and Stevie Wonder. Each of these artists created powerful albums by combining the elements of social change and love. It’s not everyday that albums like these are created. Using this knowledge, and with the invaluable help of Dr. Cornel West as a narrator, I set out to create a balanced album. The result is a collection of half socially conscious, half love songs that will hopefully touch the masses both mentally and emotionally. Balance and mastering inner peace are two underlying themes of the album. In this life we are in a constant search for inner peace. We long for it in all aspects of our lives, both personally and professionally. The truth is that we cannot have inner peace without balance. It seems that having too much or too little of anything completely throws off our balance, therefore limiting our inner peace. And as each one of us is unique, we each have a different path to our inner peace. Being an entertainer, my path to inner peace is engulfed in the music that I create. While it is therapeutic for those who hear it, it is equally therapeutic for me to create. As I strive to find balance in my life, I use my new album to demonstrate those struggles, the Love and the War. On my first single “Bulletproof” featuring Ludacris, I talked about the perils that are affecting our nation and challenging our societal norms. On my newest single, “I Don’t Care,” I talk about having a genuine love despite the naysayers. Both songs speak to two different types of struggles that we face in our daily lives; struggles that hinder our peace. We are all on a journey to mastering our inner peace. As I navigate my journey, it is my hope that you will take a few moments to yourself today to think of the things that bring you balance and peace. Cherish and nurture those things within yourself. To quote Mahatma Ghandi, “As human beings, our greatness lies not so much in being able to remake the world–as [it lies] in being able to remake ourselves.” Best of luck on your journey.
